The fifth Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival will be held Oct. 14-16, 2016 at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg, Florida.

The festival will offer more than 100 activities and programs over the course of three days and features more than 25 birding, wildflower and nature experts.
Birds flock to Lake County, which is home to thousands of acres of preserves and passive parklands, including the Lake Apopka Restoration Area, Ferndale Preserve, Emeralda Marsh, the Dora Canal and the Hilochee Wildlife Management Area.
With Lake County’s reputation as a premier birding location, it’s the goal of this festival to enhance awareness and appreciation of Lake County’s quality of life and support environmental initiatives on behalf of citizens and visitors alike.
Premier Boat Tours will provide tours during the event from their dock at ‘Lakeside Inn’ in Mount Dora. In addition to their regular scheduled daily tours they will add a 2 Hour Sunset Tour on Lake Dora & Lake Beauclair on Saturday October 15th at 5:10pm and a 2 Hour Sunrise Tour on Sunday October 16th at 7:30am. Reservations required Tel 352-434-8040 or make an inquiry through our website.

Educational Field Trip for First Academy of Leesburg

Yesterday, The exchange students from First Academy in Leesburg came out on a field trip to see the local wildlife of Florida. We saw a Bald Eagle, baby and adult alligators, 4 varieties of heron, both common & Snowy egrets (the ones with the golden slippers, like Usain Bolt) and a variety of other birds. Through our translator Paul, we were able to pass on many interesting facts about the wildlife and the local area. Everyone had a great time, especially when they all took a turn at driving the boat!
